My "plans" exactly.....as a former technician most issues I could handle, even the o/h. The frame issue would be the joker as that would have to be "farmed out" whether going with new rails or putting a stub on. Just thinking out loud as I could keep my present job and work on this at my pace and discretion.

Ah frame work. To be blunt, it sucks. I have replaced a rear frame section before. Hired a good welder to chop and weld it, I redrilled every freaking hole myself. Not fun and its time consuming.

I've fixed a couple frames that were half ### stretched and then broke, it sucked. If you weren't in a big hurry, I think re-railing would be kind of a fun project. Have you looked into the cost of frame rails and related parts vs cutting and welding?

Not yet....the main man comes back from vacation tomorrow so I can hopefully get a feel for what he wants out of it. I've got a high school buddy back home that has a large heavy truck body shop, was going to run it by him and see what his thoughts are on it.

They get a lot easier after you do a few of them lol. A mag drill is handy to have. As well as a 3/4 5/8" and 1/2" reamer bits. The most common mistake is the welder not having confidence in his weld and putting a dozen stringers on each side. I always used 7018 and my portable machine. I have a little trouble getting penetration with my wire machine. That said it's the welder not the machine or wire.

There are options too. How bad is it corroded? Just the inside of the frame or outside too? How much of the length is affected?

I did my whole suspension install with a 5/16" bit and tapered reamers. Cost me a fraction of what a mag drill would have and it turned out great.

Yup lol. If I start doing this kind of stuff more often (hopefully soon) I would definitely invest in a good mag drill. Just didn't see it being worth it when I paid $175 for a couple different sized reamers to do 1 truck.
