So competition chili has no beans. But eating chili must have beans.

 

so, competitive eating would prove to be a conundrum.....

 

Basic baked cornbread

Ingredients

1. 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted (or bacon drippings)
2. 1 cup all-purpose flour.
3. 1 cup yellow cornmeal (or polenta)
4. 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
5. 2 teaspoons baking powder (optional: yields a fluffier cornbread)
6. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
7. 1 1/2 cup buttermilk shake before measuring.
8. 2 large eggs.

Heat oven to 400 degrees. For a more crispy crust, heat to 425.

Coat a 9 inch square pan with the butter/ bacon grease.

Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
Mix all wet ingredients in a separate bowl or large measuring cup.
Make a well in the dry ingredients, pour wet in the hole. Stir to combine and everything is wet. Don’t over mix, the batter may have some fine lumps, thats ok. Pour batter into pan. Put in center of oven, bake 20 to 25 minutes.
The top should have some browning and a toothpick poked in should be dry when taken out. Cool for a few minutes, then cut and slather butter on and eat with something good.

 

Soup beans, corn bread and FRIED POTATOES. You forgot the taters.

 

Nope! I won a fire muster (just so not to confuse....a fire muster is a group of fire dept's getting together and competing in fire techniques, applications, bucket brigade, just general fun) chili cook-off. Won a $1400.00 mountain bike, nice trophy,and a weekend for 2 up at Harrah's South Lake Tahoe. Yes,my chili has beans, pinto and black, hamburger, pork sausage, fresh from the garden tomatoes, yellow and white onions, fajita and poblano peppers (again from the garden) .....can't give you the spices....that's secret!

 

Talking about all this food..... I sure enjoy a vine ripe tomato drug through some good breakfast gravy....!!!

 

Corned beef hash, Fried potatoes, eggs and sourdough toast with a side of sliced tomatoes.

 

And competitive ribs are not allowed to fall off the bone! Which is stupid. What do the fancy pants judges know!

 

There is nothing wrong with chili beans. But it needs to be called chili beans... chili should only be chili if it has no beans

 

What is it bout folks west of the big muddy. No chili beans in chili ? COME ON ! Sumptin must get lost in the language translation out yonder. Let me guess bet ya'll call vegetable soup but without the veggies !?
