You know in the beginning Cummins never designed that engine used in dodge trucks...? They bought the patent rights, same as John Deere bought the Waterloo rights to have a tractor. It worked out good for both companies.

Who did then?4mer trucker, stwik, Zeviander and 9 others Thank this. -
I always thought that a 3306 would have been good in a pickup...……...25 years ago.
Might have been a bit limiting on top speed though.4mer trucker, stwik, Zeviander and 11 others Thank this. -
That would have to be a hell of a truck. The 3306 is double the dry weight of the Cummins.

Company in the Midwest. They designed it, started production if memory is correct when Cummins took notice. Cummins put it in production in equipment, and Dodge picked up on it. Made for a great heavy pickup engine.
The very first International V8's that Ford used were good too, but they stumbled in the beginning for a particular reason.... do you know why?4mer trucker, stwik, Zeviander and 13 others Thank this. -
Not 100% sure but it had to have been in at least the early 90's because my dad was looking into putting them on his W900A back when he got it in like '93

No, but I’m sure you do.

I'd love to try and cram a 6V53 into an 80's square body GM. Only if it had jakes though otherwise what's the point?

The reason I know comes from Dad working for a local International Dealership. Working with International technicians he gained a lot of knowledge of these new at that time engines.
International was playing with the V8 6.9 and had all bases covered except one detail... injectors. Just so happened Caterpillar got wind of this and said hey... looky looky what we got... injectors that we don't have an engine for yet. International buys the injectors that Caterpillar had and knew were junk, caused a lot of problems but, after that small batch they got their own injectors and was off the the races. At least until early 2000's when the EPA stepped in and made it so hard on them. Sadly some of the best engines out there where put down because of those ########! I act a fool and carry on but... we all know Caterpillar had some of the best truck engines out there... when the ax fell!4mer trucker, sawmill, Zeviander and 13 others Thank this. -
