Had a wonderful last Sunday with my "old" friends here... They took me to their mother's place in Duque de Caxias, west zone of Rio.
Big house, according to Brazilian standards... used to be much smaller but they kept building more and more.... made 3 houses all together... now it looks like a condo and there are three generations of same family living there...
They used to live in the small house in the back... now that is storage and workshop
That little blue polishing motor on top of the high bench was one of the things I gave to them when I got rid of my workshop....
My friend and her mom prepared a wonderful meal for us...

And this... this is really great food! Variety of food... delicious and nutritious food... not only meat but many other things...
Brown rice
Boiled corn
Scarlet eggplant (never seen in America)
Fried yucca (delicious appetizer)
Cooked pumpkin with salt and lots of spices and herbs
Cooked meat (no idea what kind)
Reddish brownish very soft beans (totally absolutely DELICIOUS)
Green collard
Salad of tomatoe, lettuce, yellow, red and green pepper with onions, herbs and spices
Kibbeh (a Middle Eastern dish based on spiced ground meat, onions, and grain very popular in Brasil)
And that was my dish... I could have well had 2 dishes but there wouldn't be enough for everybody...

Funny you should put up a food picture.
A while back you mentioned American being “dull”, but I had to tell the misses no more spices, because thanks to whatever she put on last night’s pork chops this was me this morning.

And after some socializing... my friends took me to their shop in a mall... Their jewelry shop...
I was totally amazed! What an ABSOLUTELY wonderful surprise to see my friends' shop....
That's my friend in front of her shop.
Remembering the times when we shared the same stand in an art and craft fair on a public square in Rio back in the late 80's.... and now seeing their gorgeous jewelry shop was tremendous.... They are really hard working folks.... I am soooooo happy for them.... I love them!Last edited: Jun 3, 2021

But hey... dull doesn't mean lack of hot spice like hot pepper... no no no... that might be with Mexican food or Indian food...
Brazilian cuisine can be spicy depending on the region or not... There is a huge variety of dishes and food in Brasil... And lots of herbs and spices... and veggies and roots and this and that..
I bet you would LOVE the food in Brasil and you would eat like a king there...
Only problem, you might get bored with the food when back in America..singlescrewshaker, OLDSKOOLERnWV, shooter19802003 and 9 others Thank this.
