Sign of the times I guess.. Old guys retiring and not alot of new guys coming in I guess. Imo, there are a few factors at work here. To the newer generations, trucking is looked down upon. It is actually kinda demonized in alot of circles. Heck when folks ask what I do and I tell them, I always get odd looks and then they change the subject. I think some had to do with pay and some had to do with being gone. Gone are the generations of guys that do what needs to be done. I've taken more than my share of crap jobs because I needed to out food on the table. Now folks just sit home and collect a paycheck. Plus, what have we been teaching our kids for years? Not to be like us....I've heard it a thousand times. Work smart not hard.....goto school and work with your head not your hands. So.....they did. My buddy is having a problem with this right now. He is getting older and looking to retire. He encouraged both his kids to goto college, so they did. Then they got a degree and moved to the city. Now he is going to sell his farm because the kids want nothing to do with it. Because they listened to him....and he is kinda distraught over it. They listened to him for years birch and complain about how hars it was and the lack of money etc. So now they make good money in the a/c in an office.

I break a couple front wheel studs a year. It’s gotten so I carry spares because nobody stocks them anymore. And the service guy usually strips/breaks the driver’s side because he forgets it’s LH thread so he gets to do the job twice.

Saw a driver running a 7 axle with an old Werner hood, 38k rears. Every time he turned the steering wheel in the parking lot, you could hear the frame POP POP POP!

It’s the hand holding that stops you and me from being good employees.
