The above quote is the number one reason to own a truck. Otherwise, some people would never in life understand, “Goeth intercourse thyself.”singlescrewshaker, Flint1, DeereRunner97 and 11 others Thank this.

Yea let's call it that!
Problem is you get cold when you stop working.

Yeah, there is more to It than that though for me right now. I can't disclose what that is just yet though, but I'm working on it.singlescrewshaker, DeereRunner97, Rocks and 4 others Thank this.

I see nothings changed. Loaded bricks one time, early 90's, was either in IA or NE, hot day, 95+ high humidity, no shade, loads gotta be tarped, huh?. Started tarping, heat/humidity was brutal, started getting dizzy, stopped and went into the AC building, as truck had no AC. You can't come in here, just let me sit for a few minutes and cool down, or you'll be calling for an ambulance. No, get out, went out into the entrance way and sat down against the wall for awhile, at least that was in the shade and a little cooler. Went back out into the heat and sloowly finished tarping, often laying down under the trailer and then going back to work, it was brutally hot. Yeah, some people suck, nothings changed in 30 years.
I can take the heat & cold pretty well, heat if I have a fan blowing on me and cold if I'm working in it. I've learned to go real slow in the heat, take breaks, stay hydrated, and to bull it in the cold to stay warm. Overall, I prefer to work in the cold, unless it's below zero with the wind howling. When that happens, I'll just sit by the woodstove, look out the window, and watch my truck rust....singlescrewshaker, Swine hauler, Flint1 and 10 others Thank this. -
Not sure how it scales out, but it's one of the reasons for sure. I know I wouldn't be doing most of the crap that I do if every load paid the same $xx to tarp and I was getting paid by the mile. On the flip side, freedom sometimes means dipping out a septic tank with a coffee can on the end of a stick. I'm glad I got my freedom while they still made metal coffee cans.singlescrewshaker, Swine hauler, Tug Toy and 12 others Thank this.

My late brother was a stone Mason in his early years. We would be in the car, and he would see a building or house he had done work on, and had a lot of pride in his work. He would point out walls that he had built, beautiful stone work that was literally works of art, even simple concrete structures, all built with his own hands. His name won't go down in history, hus name won't be on any of the buildings he took part in building, in 50 years no one will remember he existed, but he didn't care about any of that. All he ever wanted was to use his hands to turn rock, sand, and mud into beautiful things that people could enjoy. He didn't work alone most of the time, but alongside other tradesmen.
There is great nobility to me in that sort of life.
Look at all the fame and notoriety seekers we have in our society today. People that add little to no value, just seeking fame for the sake of fame, meaningless and full of vanity. They build nothing except fake personas, with no real substance, desperate for fake approval from other fake persons.
We also have people, who follow for the sake of following. They jump on the wagon, because they have no real principles, values, or sense of self worth. Instead, their need for a self esteem boost drives them to participate in the latest societal fad. Self esteem is the enemy of self worth. One is meaningless and vain, the other is a substance of intrinsic value.
The value of a person as a human being is not tied to their accomplishments, but to their humanity. As a society, we have devalued our humanity. We stopped teaching God, family, and country, and replaced with self esteem, materializm, and vanity.
Not having your name written in history, doesn't make you any less valuable. Remember, Stalin, Marx, Mao, Caligula, Pope John XII, Ivan IV, all names written forever in history. I know I certainly don't want to be counted amongst them.singlescrewshaker, Lostkeys, Swine hauler and 16 others Thank this. -
A number of companies think that they can require the load to be tarped, some even state it on the bills. Then they think not allowing it on the property absolve them for any liabilities should some one get injured. Well, they need to think again. It does not protect them. Lots of companies have lost that battle.
A number of times, when the company says no on site tarp, I tell them unless they have a tarp setting system or other safe and observed place to tarp, the load will not be tarped. Have been both refused to be loaded or had the load removed. You bet I got paid for my time.
Actually got banned for “life” from some place in the Midland area because of it. That really hurt my feelings.Last edited: Jul 2, 2021

Not sure if it’s my age and lack of pain-free flexibility, or if I just haven’t done enough large tire work, but unless I have my hubs at the right height, I struggle getting wheels on the studs with a single bar.
I wish I’d have made this years ago. No more scuffed hub caps.
