At the safety course, they showed us this
and told us we would have to ride like this. I laughed, “Ain’t no way in Hell.”
I too would like to take an advanced class.

    You can beat it.

I'll check in the morning when I get back to the truck and see. I'm sure it's aluminum.

I did read that in order to use an acert pump I'll need to change the backing plate, pump, and thermostat housing.

Backing plate is exactly what I'm talking about. Its concaved. Cone shape. It makes the housing for flow. Im not there, no guarantee. But if it eroded, its creates bigger volume from the impeller. Slower flow, which in my weird mind would be a problem at idle, not going down the road. Till it got worse. But K.I.S.S. Keep it Simple Stupid. Blow out rad. Get a temp of upper and lower hoses. Inlet/outlet. Then top to bottom on rad. Have you tested the rad cap?

Not being a donkey. That is something I tell myself daily.

Air flow. When your running down the road, you have a fairly high static pressure at the front of the truck. That air is forced into the radiator by the shroud in front of it. When your sitting still, the fan is trying to pull air through grille and radiator.

I should note ambient temp the last couple weeks has pushed over 100. So that's not helping but it's never ran really cool and that's got me thinking.

Radiator gets thoroughly washed out at least once a week.

I'll pick up a backing plate tomorrow and take it home with me and pull the old one off and have a look see. If it's not pristine I'll replace it. If it is ill return the one I picked up.

I'll temp gun the top and bottom once I get it up to temp tomorrow. I've shot the upper hose in the past and it reads what my gauge reads.

You don't want too fast of flow nor too slow of flow so a pitted backing plate could cause these issues I suppose Too slow and it can't get the heat out fast enough even if it's got time to shed the heat in the radiator.

It doesn't seem to make much difference weather it cools or not no matter engine speed while sitting. It will draw down to around 210 loaded while moving with the fan on. Itll get down around 200 empty while moving with the fan on.

I believe that's what it is but I also believe I've got another issue as it's not coming down much even at highway speeds. Granted outside temp is very high and not helping much.
