    Thanks. I haven't actually had any formal training. It was a last minute thing and we needed it built ASAP so I fired up the welder and did my best. Ended up capping it with 2 more passes in order to fill it in nicer.

    Got the bill for cleaning up the fire last night. $24,751.00 had to pay in full to get the truck and trailer out of hock.

    The base plate did a little bit but not too badly. I cut down a bracket we already had and welded it to a bigger base plate. I tacked each corner in a cross pattern and alternated the welds on opposite sides to evenly distribute the heat. I think the base was 3/4" plate.

    Welcome to truckin' in the USA as a Canadian.
    Most Canadian insurance is not recognized by US towing companies.
    Our insurance companies have fought towing pricing and lowballed so many times that most towing companies just say cash only and YOU fight with them.
