    Have you checked to see if the gauge is actually right? I know you posted a bunch of stuff can't remember if you verified the gauge?

    Yep. Gauge is correct. It's a mechanical gauge and has been verified as correct. Only thing left is pump/backing plate

    Have you inspected the thermostat housing?

    Friend of mine chased this same issue, overheating going down the road in the summer and wouldn’t keep water temp sitting still in the winter.

    Housing had pitting inside and looked like the thermostats were able to move some. It is the same kind of pitting you get with the old green antifreeze when the nitrate levels are not taken care of.

    Housings looked good inside when I changed the thermostats. They fit relatively snugly in the housings. I'm not really sure how those thermostats work being hollow but what do I know.
