Speaking of the market, parts prices have gone nuts too, if you can even find 'em. Got off the phone with IH, 7100 needs a new deaeration tank, $607.48, say again, it's just a stamped steel tank. Guess what, keep it, off to the steel shop, then to the weld/fab shop, build one for under $100 and better quality.
I'm not alone, millions of us out here that can and will build parts better here. Enough with depending on inferior price gouged foreign made parts. Waaay past time to give china and their puppet masters here the big F U, enough is enough, start making our own parts again, a lucrative opportunity awaits. Maybe time to sell off my equipment while I can get a good $$$ for it and go into fab/machine work....singlescrewshaker, Gatordude, Lostkeys and 12 others Thank this. -
You might be better off buying a new one with the way the used trailer prices have been. What part of the country did you buy in?singlescrewshaker, Lostkeys, cke and 6 others Thank this.

I started going to second hand parts. There are two big wrecker yards nearish me. They have a huge selection at great prices. I got my slider and 5th wheel yesterday for $550! Score! They have alot of nos stuff. Crates and crates of nos for 1/2 off new prices. They had motors, trans, rear ends, housings, pumpkins, hoods, doors, breathers, drive shafts, fuel tanks...etc. Mostly for freightliner and western star. I was like a kid in a candy store!
On the other you said. China is something that we have done to ourselves. Manufacturing was sent over there because of consumer sentiment. The average American wants an abundance of cheap goods. It's pretty much that simple. We live in a throw away society and folks don't want to pay for quality. So, inorder to achieve that, overseas the Manufacturing goes. It really started in earnest in the 50s. When folks started having a 2 income household and money to spend.
I agree with what you said last though. It might be time to sell out and start Manufacturing. I think it might be a good time for that. Actually thought of that myself. Maybe even doing it part time. The problem is getting raw materials now. Interesting times my friend.singlescrewshaker, Lostkeys, dwells40 and 14 others Thank this. -
I live in Southern Oregon, but the truck I bought was in California.
I may look at new when it comes to the trailer, but out West it doesn't seem like used trailer prices especially for flats have gone too out of whack. There's a trailer sales company in my town so when it's time to shop they'll be one of my first stops.singlescrewshaker, Lostkeys, Swine hauler and 11 others Thank this. -
I was just informed Wix filters are having a supply issue. Made my yearly order and was told dont be in a hurry.
Big farm supply store can't get shell oil. Think I bought the last 12gal in the county. Can't find a barrel under 1000 bucks.
I've been after junk yard parts for years when feasible. Have a truck yard 10 miles south of me that I stop and walk around even when I don't need anything. Just mental inventory.
I lost count on how many parts trucks are in mine around 9, idk anymore.
I have 3 VINs, and 2 engine serial numbers i use with a dealer.singlescrewshaker, Lostkeys, dwells40 and 9 others Thank this. -
