    That's about right.

For some reason, the sermon was very moving that day. :D

@Bear135 @Ruthless here is a picture of what a ear of corn looks like hanging off the stalk. Each stalk will have one ear of corn but sometimes two depending on seeding population.

This picture is showing the end result of the empty cob after it goes through the combine.

It pretty much just thrashes out the kernels and spits out the empty cob. We use a 12 row (30 foot) corn header to harvest them. On the header itself it has a set of rollers and gathering chains per row. The rollers grab the stalks and peels them downward pulling the ear of corn off and the gathering chains bring it toward the auger which feeds it to the feeder house and then making its way through the thrashing elements of the combine. Here is a picture showing the end result of what we haul away in the truck and put in our bin till we market it.

Ours have two ears on each stalk as far as I know? We call it "dent corn" as the kernel has a dent in the end like the picture above. No you don't want to eat it! A lot of farmers grow a little garden of sweet corn for themselves and the niebhors. That stuff is awesome raw right out in the field.

    Just pick, peel and eat.

As a kid growing up the tassels on the top of a stalk of cow corn would be dull, off white and dingy looking. Seeet corn would have a nice white tassel. The difference in color made it easy to determine which field to steal sweet corn from. As a kid I stole a lot of sweet corn under the guidance of my father. As best I can remember the tassels became more the same color in the late seventies. Why I don’t know. You had to actually shuck an ear to see which corn it was. For @Ruthless Sweet corn is sweet corn. The other is known as field corn, cow corn, pig corn, dry corn, silage corn, ear corn, shelled corn and probably some other names.
