It doesn't look bad at all. I polish by hand and machine and I'm not worth a crap at either one. Tug is the go to in that department. You can come practice on mine if you want.

It shinned up compared to what I started with. But up close still see sanding scratches and haze. Picture is making it look better. Started off 80,100, 150,320. Then 600 by hand. Then 3 passes with polish kit. Then hand polish. Way to much effort for the finished Quality.
But I'm still learning. I have a Milwauke cordless angle buffer. However only turns 2000rpm. They recommend 3000 rpm. Maybe that would help.cke, Lostkeys, exhausted379 and 12 others Thank this. -
Anybody ever think about painting those wheels with a super high gloss very light gray aircraft quality paint? A friend of mine did. They don't shine quite like freshly polished aluminum but it's hard to tell the difference.

I read on here I think about guys waxing them right after a polish. Don't know how that turned out...I'd try it but don't relish the thought of doing it twice if I'm not satisfied.

With using that aggressive of sandpaper your gonna have a hard time getting the scratches out.
To fix it I'd use my zip gun with a lighter duty brown scotchbrite pad to get out the deep scratches. You have to be real even with it like cleaning a block. Then 600 with a orbital till you get everything evened back up. I always finish with 1000 just to save time but you don't have to.
Brown bar with a orange and purple wheel works well for a initial shine if you don't sand to 1000.
Or you can skip all that and use a black bar and a aggressive wheel....personally I'd rather sand more and polish less. -
I picked up one of these. They get alot of good reviews in the world. I haven't used it much, but what I have I like.

James breaks out the Zephyr products and polisher after I fly by Toledo.
Sigh. -
That's what I have. Had it for years
Bought it for buffing out new paint years ago.
When I started polishing I used a wool pad and a green bar smashed up and mixed with mineral spirits in a squeeze bottle.
I still use a wool pad sometimes. -
I bought quick change heads for it that are different weights for different color bars. Haven't used it enough to know how well it works. Looks good sitting on my bench though.....lol.
