600 bucks for cruise? Done. Lol.

Awesome, I always appreciate learning new stuff. Thanks. Especially from old hands who know what they are doing. I always listen intently when they are talking.

You might be surprised, not saying it doesn’t but it doesn’t have to. I pulled up to 200,000 (and occasionally more) with a 565 ISX spinning 3:90’s. I do up to 185,000 now with a 550 and 4:30’s. 425 Cats pulled a lot of weight in their day.

I’d be happy with my DD15 if I was running 3.73s and my old 13-speed...

I know they get a bad rap on here but it’s no slouch of a motor for legal gross work.

Thanks a lot. Engine choice hasn't even been close to made yet, lol. I'm a CAT guy to the core, but won't be against running something else if the price is right and the reliability is there. With the right exhaust, anything sounds good (even a Paccar MX-13, lol).

I do agree though, a mid-90's CAT or N14 would offer some improved technology, and still offer the freedom from the e-nanny. I just need someone to help me learn whatever I buy, top-to-bottom, before I feel really comfortable driving it.

On the topic of e-logs, we haven't had any laws passed yet. You can still use paper in a brand new truck, but stay out of the US. That said, they are talking about a 2020 mandate. Actual rules haven't been really addressed yet (and it's getting to the point where they need to start talking about it) but as with everything else Canada does, they try to mirror the US as closely as possible. I'm sure it'll be around the 1999 mark for engine year for exemption. Just like with livestock haulers, they'll likely just get full exemptions from the start.

I'm hoping they look at it and maybe say "the Hours of Service need work, let's reconsider this until we address that problem" but they won't. The big carriers here are just like those in the US, ingrained in the political system, buying their advantages through legislation.

Just get a throttle lock cable, $60. The only problem is you really have to watch traffic and push it like a air brake valve to get it to release.

Gotcha. I tell you as far as knowledge, theres enough old school truckin and engine, transmission , rearend, truck knowledge in here to build a diesel powered space ship to go to the moon, lol. Alotta smart fellas in here and no doubt put you on the right track.

Thanks for the info on Canada, I hadn't even looked into it or aware or what they were doing. That's interesting though.

Last big truck (13 axle) was a KT 650/18 sp. A little slow up the hills, around 18 mph. On the Interstate easy 55 mph but was too fast for this hick. I doesn't take much to peel a tire off on corners at highway speeds toten 212k. ;-)
