Alright, I need to ask the masses a question.
Why do guys put their tarps up like that? He obviously isn't going to tarp or he would have done it at the shipper. Why put them up top then. Why not on the back where there is like 4 or 5 feet of empty deck? I see this all the time and never understood it......so I gotta ask.....why?

Less likely to get stolen? Some places I picked up at expected you to tarp it, but not on their property, so they would set them on top "to be helpful" for when you did, lol. And other places had a sunshine policy. Meaning sun's out no tarp required unless you ran into weather and then expected to to tarp then....see above.

My only guess is harder to steal while stopped.

The load most likely was supposed to be tarped. Lots of places do require it in the winter months even on wrapped bundles. If it was loaded out of a consolidated yard or a resale broker, a high likelihood they won’t allow tarping on site. That wrap when wet or iced is as slippery as hot greased glass.

It is not uncommon to see on the bills, weather protect or must be delivered clean and dry. This gets them out of stating that it needs to be tarped, and clears them of responsibility for potential liability should the driver fall or get injured tarping the load.

The fellow will remain nameless, but I know a guy that was supposed to tarp a load of lumber going to a retail store.
But he didn't feel like tarping It, so he drove there untarped, and stopped about 2000' away. He just rolled the tarps out, not fastened at all, or even covering much. Drove the couple thousand feet slowly, and when he arrived, hopped on the load, and rolled them back up.
Upon hearing that, I gave him a high 5.

Clear American. They sell it in WalMart for $3/12pack. Goes great with Crown Royal.

I have a shipper that material is to be tarped year round. And a receiver who unloads outside year round, and stores material outside year round. I just shake my head. None of my business.
