Ok @MACK E-6 here is what I have come up with. The answer is.........depends.
I've read a ton of articles and they all say it really depends on the locale, local and state laws and also how good of a lawyer you/they have. Because in most instances the defense of others that are not on your property or part of your immediate family is pretty murky as far as the law is concerned. Some states as previously mentioned have a duty to retreat and others have castle doctrine. However, most laws are only applicable to one's self. So, if the guy you shot has a good lawyer, they could sue you for assault for instance and could possibly win depending on the location and the makeup of the jury. This would work in NYC or the like vs where I live. Here are some links to what I found that are broad. So, you would really have to look at state and local laws where the instance would take place.
One link is to a discussion on local law and it states very Cleary the defense of others.

Using a Gun for Self-Defense: Laws and Consequences
Self-Defense in Criminal Cases
Possible Defenses to a First-Degree Assault Charge - Drew Cochran, Attorney at Law | Ellicott City and Annapolis, Maryland
An excerpt from the above link:
- Arguing self-defense. There are occasions where you do have the right to defend yourself from attacks by another person. There are limitations to using a self-defense argument too. You must be attacked or reasonably believe that you will be attacked immediately. The force you use must be proportional to the attack. If someone raises his arm to strike you, you do have the right to raise your arm and strike first. That’s proportional. You do not have the right to use a weapon such as a gun or a knife that kills or seriously harms your assailant. That force is beyond proportional. It may be a defense that you and the victim agreed to a mutual fight, but probably not, so don’t rely on your membership in a fight club to protect you.
- Claiming you were defending other people. In addition to defending yourself, you may have the right to defend a loved one or even a friend who is being threatened or who is in immediate danger of an attack. Again, if you use force, then the force must be proportional to the threat or force of the attacker. You should know when force is reasonably proportional and when it is excessive.
- Proving you had cause. This defense questions whether the victim’s injuries are directly related to your force. If the victim was already suffering from an injury, then as long as you do not aggravate the injury, you should not be criminally accountable for a first-degree assault. If the person you struck has a broken arm when his arm was perfectly fine before you struck him, then you will likely be charged with a first-degree assault.

Yeah, that's my concern, too. I wish I had moved to go see that Sterling that got snapped up, because the frame and body in that pic looked really good, but I'd had it in my Watch List for a while, too...so no telling when the pics were taken. I figured/hoped, if I was able to get it, that the engine would hold out for a while, but figured at worse, it was the weak spot and would need rebuilding at least. The fact it was on my list so long, was what concerned me, at that price and for that long, but in hindsight, wish I'd gone to look sooner to make my own determination.
Now..it's a moot point.
OLDSKOOLERnWV, MOBee, cke and 4 others Thank this. -
No Sir, it’s actually a version of single fire ignition. The 3 yellow wires are attached to a actual “distributor cap” that’s only like 5/8” thick. The center wire is from the coil going to the center button in the cap, and the 2 outer wires are going to the 2 cylinders. It has an actual rotor button under the cap. I later traded it out for a Crane Hi-4 single fire setup. Wish I had kept this setup, but I sold it like a dummy lol….DeereRunner97, MOBee, BigBob410 and 7 others Thank this. -
