Would if I tore up the customers equipment.

As a driver and as an O/O I’ve yet to destroy anything in 35+ years. Not saying it won’t happen tomorrow, but I go the extra mile to insure my job is done correctly and professionally.

See this picture…? That is a page from an original manual for one of my Case tractors. Dated (1948). I try to live by what it says…..

I had a young guy tell me, after he'd carved big metal filings out my gooseneck while trying to get a D7 straight..."These old Murrays can take a beating, relax Pops". I think it was the "Pops" that got me irritated. It was my 7, my Murray, and he was some new guy the dirt boss had hired to pioneer some road.
He didn't know who I was when he started carving on that gooseneck. He knows now.
He wasn't much of a cat skinner anyway so we didn't lose much by canning him.
If it's our stuff the driver will almost always load it. Except a curb and gutter machine that we move once in awhile for a contractor. That thing is evil and the operator does most of the loading and unloading.

I have side loaded, but only track machines with rubber tracks.

I had a Skytrak on the rear couple years ago, with a skid steer side loaded behind it, and a excavator in front of the skid steer. But I don’t make a habit of side loading bigger machines with steel tracks. I’m not in that big of a hurry, and if the customer is….. well, I’m not the only one with a lowboy….

Eh! I’m not a fan of it, but sometimes it’s the only choice.

How do you learn to load the equipment yourself if you've never operated any of that stuff? Do they help or do you get help from other truckers?

jamespmack, MOBee, PoleCrusher and 3 others Thank this.

    I can sure identify….

Had a guy do that recently with a 320 Cat excavator. I use to be able to wipe the dirt clods off the ramps with my hand and glove, I have to dress it up with a grinder now!!

Do you remember Hurricane Sandy that tore up NJ…??

I was delivering generators to NJ with this trailer after that storm. I’ve pulled it all over the place before buying it after the company closed. Just always tried to take care of it….
