I'm a glutton for punishment, so i might use that information. That hill across the river behind truck? That would be looking south. I assume you're talking north of 20? I parked there this morning about 8 ish. Chukar calling back and forth across there. Somewhere along Hwy 20, i think it was, a rooster ran across the road too.
I may be back with the dogs.![]()

A little bit back towards Vale from where your truck is, you might have seen a sign that was the turn off to Dry Creek — about 40 miles of dirt road, but that’s where you want to unleash the houndsD.Tibbitt, singlescrewshaker, LameMule and 7 others Thank this.

Thanks a bunch. I had plans for Hells Canyon last year, but the early snow held me back. Then turned off dry again. I shoulda made the trip anyways. Had already taken off 9 days for mulies in Nebraska, and that was early December.
Wife would've murdered me.singlescrewshaker, cke, MOBee and 4 others Thank this. -
If you haven’t never done it, a chukar hunt should be at the top of the bucket list— the devil created the little ######## and becomes addicting — I’ve known strong men brought to their knees and weep profusely when they hear a chukar callD.Tibbitt, singlescrewshaker, exhausted379 and 6 others Thank this.

I live in Arkansas, so there are basically no wild birds to train dogs on. Pen raised quail are iffy at best, same with pen raised pheasant.
So besides my pigeons, i would get chukar from the local bird shoot farm.
The pen raised chukar were good. Held tight for a good point, but once they creeped, gone.
My dogs have been humbled by the the antics of sharpies and prairie chickens, because they flush from ridiculous distances. But once you get that hard nosed, ain't movin my toes point, i just lose it.
Chukar are the pinnacle, and I'm not ashamed to be humbled.
Brutus on some of the very few wild Arkansas birds left

Speking of the dogs. My wife took mine for a run this morning. They treed about a 1/4 mile off the road, and wife has no way to recall. So, she trudges through the woods to find this. Maybe it's common knowledge, but I've never seen a whistle pig climb.

Probably for the better. You get a taste of hauling quarry products, plus the admiration and awe of your peers, it might be difficult to return to the specialized gig.
BTW, there's a lever between the seats of my rig- pull it and the load slides right out the back! Pretty cool.D.Tibbitt, jamespmack, CAXPT and 10 others Thank this. -
my peers mostly stay away from me
and I could drop this piece of crap but it would take a crane or two to pick up.
this project is total #### and it would appear, I am done with it if I ever deliver this one. In it 2 plus weeks already - maybe get it off the end of the week in Canuckistan - if MT issues permits and we don’t get arrested at the border.D.Tibbitt, jamespmack, CAXPT and 13 others Thank this.
