The broken axle I alluded to earlier. This is a homemade trailer that is similar to a body builder who skips leg day. Stout as hell up top, but no foundation to hold it up. The previous owner used it for his skid steer. He upgraded to the biggest tracked CAT machine and the axle failed. No brakes on the trailer. I quoted him $3500 for 2 new 7K brake axles and 5 tires/rims. For $4300, he can get a new trailer.

Some ironwork for the timber framers next door. They did the woodworking and the new owner is going to stain the benches. The bars are fastened to the top and slide into the pipe base. 2'4" and 7'4" steel.

They do some impressive work. I just finished 3700 lbs of steel parts, including threading 27 - 1 1/2" x 20' tension rods for a big project they're getting ready to put up. 7 full truckloads of lumber. The main posts are 14" x 21" douglass fir.
Douglass fir. There's some weight to them.cke, snowman_w900, DDlighttruck and 3 others Thank this. -
Why do they do that? More surface area?cke, snowman_w900, SAR and 3 others Thank this.

It makes for a stronger joint. It won't rack over to one side and the notch helps to take some of the stress off of the fasteners. There's two long structural screws in each leg that are capped over. In person, you have to look to find them.

Would assume so, that's a Joint that isn't going anywhere
