Those were the last of the good days of trucks. I kind of liken it to the automotive world nowadays - you get 2 engine choices, a couple different powertrain options and you get to pick a colour.

That started years back. But your right. 91ish at Mid America truck show. Dad asked the GMC rep why they had a 454ss short bed and no long bed. Told him he had a 76 454 heavy half ton 2wd. The higher gvw dodged emissions back then
The gentleman asked "why do you need a 8' bed. I stood next to the oldman. Oldman said "for work". The younger gentleman response was "Sir if you need 454 for work, you need a bigger truck". Dad carried different values than others. I vaguely recall riding in that 76 Sierra Granda. BLUE And white 454 long bed. Tiss why I hate extended and 4 door trucks. 2 door and 8 foot bed is now hard to come by.

I'm not really a fan of the regular cab long box trucks personally. Once in a while one will catch my eye if its dressed up nice.

So I've always know them as 48, or 52. Normally called 52" Canada trucks. They mean nothing in my region. So some western states do recognize them?

To me, that is a pickup. Anything else is a car. But I understand personal differences.

If that's all you can do then you've done enough.

for sure OR and WA recognize larger axle spacing within a group.

I have 4-7 spacing and can only get approx 58k on a tridem but at 5-0 you can something more than 60k. Both states have axle calculators that determine max weight based on all the inner bridges. Takes about 2 minutes to run and Washington requires you to have the print out with your permit.
