The gas card threw me. JonJon78 called it. Nobody calls it a gas card. The whole thing was just strange

I put a heavy duty reel carrier together in my driveway for EZ. Made out of 10” channel iron, 7018 with a Lincoln 225 buzzbox and guys thought I had a big gas welder. But a mig can do nicely too…

Comparing the welds I've made with it, and the ones made with it in the 60's, they're pretty consistent. Ugly welding must be hereditary lol.

Oh I’ve had my own ugly welds lol. A 6010 or 6013 will make a pretty weld but, the not so pretty is usually stronger….:)

I read too much. Bought a pack of Lincoln 7018 rods from McMaster, and they came in a regular old cardboard box without dessicent. I have no rod warmer box and the little pamphlet says to heat them to 600F. Made me remember how Dad used to store some rods on top of the coal stove. Well, I have no coal stove in my shop, so I put them on top of my electric heater lol.

Test welding some 3/8 angle on the old axle housing before I attempt the new one. 160 amps was a little too much on my test weld, and uglier than ugly to boot. Test mig weld looks pretty and burnt the same amount of paint off the inside of the housing as the OE bracket had. I'll test weld one more try with the stick, but unless some miracle happens, she's getting wire.

Since I saved a couple grand by buying a bare housing over one with bracket and dowels installed, I need to do dowel pins also. Gonna try this guys trick for those.

    Ewww...
Yeah that sounds pretty bad to me.

I'd guess 2-3 years ago I made an unconscious decision to stop salting most my food, & at the same time upping my black pepper intake. Not really sure what's that about, but find myself going through one of those little glass pepper jars with the built in grinder about every 2 weeks.?

It's an odd phenomenon, my ol lady can barely keep a fresh one in the cupboard.. lol

If I end up at the SLC Sapp Bros, I'll just try out a BLT. Usually a safe bet.. :)

I do the same. Rode my motorcycle like I drove a truck, all day nonstop for a couple weeks. Got heat stroked really bad in Arizona. Never recovered and suddenly had all sorts of issues. Liver, kidneys, high blood pressure, etc. Now, it’s no salt, lots of pepper.
