In my experience, chains and binders will beat the ever living #### out of a box, especially back there. I tried chains in little rubber livestock dishes in my first trailer for a month or so and it didn't help. I have pipe stakes in one with tarps on top, and that's as heavy as I'll load it. I think mid-trailer would ride a lot better, but they just look nicest between the spread.

I still have a corner that has cracked - with I'd guess 250# of tarps in it? (2) 27'x4 drop, (1) 18x4 drop, and one 27x6 drop.

I got three 60” boxes. But I’m worried about weight so I have like 2 chains in each box, 2 chains on both sides of under bunk storage, and 2 chains in each step box. But when you need many chains it becomes a huge pain in the ### opening like 6 boxes. I tried chains and binders under the bunk but I felt like it weighed down the sleeper a ton. I want to get an enclosed headache rack as I don’t want my chains to look all rusted (I know I know) but I’m waiting to get my fenders ordered and installed. Plus not to mention the price ($5.5k for fenders and headache rack). I have the space im just worried about weight.

Probably not a good idea. Consider a box between the frame, instead of a cat walk.

for what its worth i used to keep both my 8ft drop tarps in my trailer box.. i cant remember what size it was.. probably a bit bigger than 24x24 but that was about 300 pounds total in that box.. and they rode there for the 2 years i had that trailer.. only damage was the dumb propane jockeys running into it.. i swear they gravitate towards anything shiny and find a way to destroy it.. the 1 part of flatbed work i wont ever miss

do you have any room on your deck? maybe consider a milk crate to strap down on the deck for your chains.. thats what im doing on my lowboy trailer since i dont have a headache rack on the truck... but i dont ever use the top deck where i have that and all my lumber stored... so with a flatbed i could see it being a pain to move out of the way all the time.

It is one of the great joys of my life to be able to do stuff like this with my son because I got to do them with my dad when I was little. At age 5 I was riding with my Dad in his new 1986 Kenworth K100 cabover glider with a 550hp/1750 CAT 3408 and a 13 speed. The 3408 was a powerplant engine that was used to run a generator and a water pump on a drilling platform. I will never forget the sound of that 3408 and the straight pipes when it fired up. I never realized the shear size of that engine until I was much older. The 3408 is an 18.0 Liter monster. Memories of my childhood that I get to pass on to my son at the same age.

The ole gator tater & egg..
That gold tooth man sure knows his way around the flat iron. Picture don't do gator sausage no justice, but I'll vouch for it..
Served me at 9:50, but said it had to be to go..

Diamond Tread Aluminum In-Frame Tool Box
Would something similar to this work? Thats aluminium so might not be heavy duty enough, but im sure you can find something steel or even find a shop to make you one custom.

This aero box is smaller 60×18×12 or something? Just did what I had to do for a bit. Layed some towels & cardboard in the bottom.

Had 4 ratchets & 4 snaps & 8 20' 5/16" chains in there for over a year.. It sucked taking chains in & out. Box it still alive & well with a 16' machine tarp, load leveler posts, coil racks, & 2" ratchets now in a milk crate. Those chains shifted one day & i broke the lower handle off trying to open it. That's when I got fed up & dropped $3k on a 3 door cabinet..
