Well, I have a newer customer wanting me to quote moving some equipment for him to the port area. I don’t have a twic card but have got the wheels in motion to get it.

He is telling me I don’t need to go into the port, I just need to go a few miles away to a drop yard and leave the piece of equipment.

This thing is mobile supposedly, and although I took these pictures, I was looking at the engines on the big crane beside it, not knowing he would later want it moved.

I’m told it’s 8’-6” wide, 13’-1” tall, and 50’ long. But since it’s only about 40 miles away I’m going to go measure the length personally, that conveyor continues beyond the main frame, so is it 50’ overall, or 50’ plus the conveyor?? That I need to find out.

So question is…. Is there actually a drop yard like that near the ports…?

There are drop locations around the port area. The question is where is it. Who runs it and what are the hours for entry. The other thing to consider is the tolls and fees you may encounter getting there.

I hope to have some of those answers once I go and measure this thing. Guy that has it apparently has sold it to someone in another country, since he is a scrapper I guess someone is saving it….

No clue about any kind of drop yard. There are plenty of freight forwarding companies around there that probably haul stuff in and out all the time. I've delivered smaller stuff to a couple places in the area that they then shove into a container. Big stuff is usually direct pickup/delivery into the port.

Going into Dundalk isn't too bad as long as your have your paperwork in order. If you do have to go into Dundalk make sure you are setup in emodal. If your name doesn't match up with your license plate and company they won't let you in.

Also don't ask them to print or copy anything there. The only place that will is the diner up by the gate.

There's at least 3 different places inside the Dundalk port that I've been to but I'm sure there's more. PortsAmerica/Shed 12, MidAtlantic, and Ceres.

My guess is that in fact, it is a forwarder that it will go to. Some have quite a bit of space and handle large equipment.
