We use CB here a lot. I got a real antenna analyzer a couple months ago and tuned the rigs antennas- coax too. Radios work awesome, big difference BUT we're on 7 and those jackwagons on 6 come through worse + Me-hee-co hombres.singlescrewshaker, exhausted379, Flint1 and 9 others Thank this.

I have an SWR meter and tune the antennas. I guess I don't know what an analyzer is, but like Blair was complaining about, we end up squelching out all the BS and then often can't hardly hear each other.singlescrewshaker, exhausted379, Flint1 and 6 others Thank this.

Yeah, get to the top of the hill and the radio sounds like a live auction barker squelch it out then head back down into the valley and almost get into a head-on coming around the Beaverslide curve because you forgot to turn it back down.
Antenna analyzer is a fancy little unit with buttons and screens and graphs and numbers that you drop a few hundred bucks on to give yourself a headache trying to figure out what all the buttons and numbers and graphs mean that shows you that SWR meters kinda work but not really.singlescrewshaker, exhausted379, Flint1 and 11 others Thank this. -
Any reason you folks in the US don't use VHF radios? Only place I've ever seen a CB in Canada was in pawn shops or auctions. Seems like they aren't very popular around here.

In the US VHF/UHF require a license to operate legally. Though plenty don't have the license. The FCC doesn't really enforce it unless you are being obnoxious and interfering with other licensed users.
The other option is a business can apply for a license to operate on a specific frequency. Then the business can authorize anybody they want to use that frequency without individual licenses.
All the skip and other BS is why I don't turn on my radio unless I'm running with pilots or another truck. I definitely never just leave it on 19.singlescrewshaker, Flint1, CAXPT and 7 others Thank this. -
Lots of outfits have their own channels up here. Helps when you've got 3 or 4 operations going on all within range of each other. Certain roads use specific frequencies to call kilometers too.singlescrewshaker, Flint1, CAXPT and 6 others Thank this.
