Just got a call from my daughter, seems her GMC Terrain was no match for a deer coming down I-79. Her and my sister are ok but being taken for evaluation since my sister is in pain. I guess those airbags really knock the wind out of you…

Hate to hear this, but hopefully they are OK. Airbags shouldn't deploy with a deer strike........at least mine never have. Maybe they don't work?

She said they were doing 71 when it jumped out, she sent me a pic of the car on a rollback, shoved the hood and fenders back to point the fender is bent from opening the passenger door….

IMG_4664.png Said she was on the binders just couldn’t avoid it, she is a good driver that I can say with confidence. Said it was like hitting a brick wall then the airbags hit them. Looks like my sisters head hit the windshield … IMG_4663.png

Maybe the air bags did help then, but having hit numerous deer over the last 50 years, occasionally more than one at a time, it seems to me that you want to be able to steer after the strike. I guess I have never hit one in something smaller than a 3/4 ton pickup though.

I hit a deer years ago down in Virginia coming down a mountain in an International truck in my R& L drilling days. Then had a deer hit me in the side with the 99 F350 @ EZ on my way to Boston. I’ve never hit a deer head on so I’m inexperienced with that. I’ve never had an airbag come out on me before neither so I’m not able to elaborate on that either lol.

These little eggshell cars they make anymore, I’m surprised the car survives a good sized horsefly….
