10 minutes. And about a hundred bucks.

I made it less than 2 weeks before I bought one for my F-150.

    Oh, wait a minute...

You’re right. I was thinking of the V-8’s that kill a few cylinders at idle automatically.

Regardless, I still cringe at the thought of tearing a dashboard apart.

The starter on my F150 started going out when it was about 4 years old. I don't start or stop the engine excessively either. New starter was about $400. I'm not seeing how the fuel savings with start/stop will ever balance out halving the life of the starter.

Apparently somewhere some dweeb decided we simply weren’t wearing starters out fast enough.

I think it's all about trying to meet emissions standards. Our F150 has a button on the dash to disable that function, and we religiously push it as soon as we start the pickup just to save the starter.

I've got a 2020 Ranger , it's got the button. My grandson works for Ford, took him about 10 minutes with a laptop. Now no stop/start, the fog lights stay on with the high beams and a couple more things I probably shouldn't mention.
