This seems to be common throughout the world, heights marked at the edges. I have had a couple of close ones in my time. In my early days of tramping (finding my own loads) I backloaded with a large round empty tank which took me over home for the night, I completely forgot about a local bridge that was low and drove under it very slowly. I got through but a car driver coming from the opposite direction panicked, swerved all over the road and disappeared behind me to crash into a wall. Police arrived, tested him for alcohol to find him way over the limit. OK for me, I was cleared, no fault, but serious for him, he was booked to emigate to Australia with his family. That put an end to that.

Another time I had another truck on the back and yet another bridge became the subject of my poor memory. The sign said 10 foot but I knew the arch was higher, also the road dipped down under it. I did my best, climbing up with a tape measure and decided to try it being, I thought about 13 feet high. Another driver stood in the middle of the road on the other side at the top of the slope so his eyes were level with the middle of the bridge. Very gradually he inched me through and said afterwards he thought he could see an inch of daylight over the top of my load. Good job he waited 'till I was through before sharing that information.

Use to be a public pool over there, now there’s a skate park, I’d rather have the public pool….

    Know how you feel,
We used to have a petanque piste outside the salle, the village activity building and a bad weather one in warehouses of the old railway station. Then, in 2000 the Commune built us a purpose built undercover piste not far away but several years later that became the main one because they built a skateboard park at the old place.
