I second the 3/4" plywood "shop floor".
It what we used when we started out.
About 8 years ago we poured a 6" thick 10x40' concrete pad.
We call it the princess pad, as the princess (me) needed it as I was tired of hauling out the 3/4" plywood lol.

 

Yea. I have a HF engine hoist that I use on my wood floor at home. I also use floor jacks to lift my pickup on it and they roll just fine even with half the weight of the truck on the jack.

Could probably get by with 4 sheets. 2 on each side of the truck to give you room to roll it forward over the hood. Just make sure you take the time to smooth out the ground under the plywood and maybe get some tie plates to attach them together.

 

No way am I moving that floor. I've got 9 sheets laid out 3x3 for a 12x24 work area. I lose about 2ft on 2 sides along the wall to storage shelves and work benches. I just screwed it all together with tie plates and 3/4" screws. I probably should've put plastic down under it with how much moisture I get up through the floor but it's too late for that now. With how much oil I've spilled on those boards there's no way they'll rot.

 

Good to know. However, I've had it since 2009 and haven't used it since, so.....the jab just let me justify not renewing it.

 

Check the width- a lot of the less expensive ones are only 93". I looked for a cheap-o for the small shop to have a handy roll around I couldn't find one wide enough.

 

Nope. Cherry picker, dirt floor hay barn, and a few choice words thrown in.

It won't fit in the shop, and it and the tractor won't fit in the barn together. All that, and I'm cheap.

One of these days, some sharp piece of gravel is gonna pierce the skin while I'm slidin around under the truck, and a new, nice shop will be born.

The hay barn has been here for 65 years, and ain't got too many more spring storms in it. The cedar posts are gettin pretty rough underground.

 

Do you have access to a farm tractor?

Good to know that a cherry picker will work. I was thinking it might not reach high enough.
