See, I'm in this camp. If it doesn't pay, I don't take it. And even if it does for those along the way loads, I still have a base day/hour rate, regardless of how convenient it works in on paper.

I'd really like to see if running the other way is actually more or less profitable. Someone that consistently adds revenue to their bottom line may actually BE more profitable overall, but there's still the time element to figure in, which is a little trickier to compare in this job.

Without the time element you are not a worker you are a volunteer. After I retired some years went by and then someone asked me to transport a couple of rescue dogs with the car. Word got around and before long I was doing 85,000 kms a year, entirely for the love of dogs, the open road and re-uniting with my old mates in the overnight stops. Not one cent of wages, just the carefully calculated total costs of running my vehicle. The fuel costs only worked out at about 10 centimes/km whereas the total at the moment is 25.

Thus I am a volunteer, no tax to pay on any of it. But you can't run a business like that. Not sure how much hourly wages would add to my figure above these days, but it will be alot based on those distances.

Start in the lowest gear at the bottom and you don't have to worry about missing a shift on the way up. I'm an amateur and have to do things like that to survive!

Back from Spokane eh, so what DID you buy at RB? Lol

What about the simple fact that you’re subsidizing someone else’s business off of your labor. Which is what you are doing when you’re running at cost or below cost.

And I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not in business to make other people money.

Way to go, if you find a nice straight stretch put it in 1, tie the wheel to the seat, and step out and get some exercise. upload_2025-3-28_16-4-14.png
