Used to work at golf courses as a equipment operator before I got into trucking.. did alot of work rebuilding irrigation systems with mini ex and trenchers... sure don't miss it but sometimes I do... it's to bad i could never find a job that paid better than minimum wage. I probably would still be doing it if a guy could actually scratch out a decent living

I'd be lying if I said this wasn't a little bit of fun

The ranch has a pipe ripper that is primarily used to install water lines that supply troughs. I'm sure it could be retrofitted to do that but I'm not sure it's worth it for 1000' of pipe.

A little. I haven't put a laser on it yet, so far just following the existing contour you can feel as you dig. It's only holding water in a couple spots.

The road is firming up some already. The plan is to clean the ditches and blade the road so we can at least get cars and pickups in and out. In a couple months I'll dig a trench down the center of the road and lay rock, 1000' of perforated pipe and cover with more rock.

If my calculations are correct I can pretty easily have a little over a foot of fall in that 1000'. It ain't much but I think it'll work.

Then I'll cover with road base and about 6" of rotomill.

@Oxbow I can promise you this, I will never hang a shingle in competition with you. I ain't operator enough to do this professionally

Only reason I was asking was I was curious if the water had a place to go. Sometimes just profiling a road and giving the water a place to go sideways can help. At least then it isn't necessarily saturated underneath as bad.

It's a PIA, but putting down filter fabric under good gravel can help to keep the mud from pushing up into the gravel. A 300' x 13' roll is about $600 bucks now though. Looks like you were doing a fine job to me!
