In my old CAT and John Deere manuals from the 50’s and 60’s the suit and tie deal is common. Idk why unless that’s what they had handy to do the picture taking

Anybody have any experience with an old Tecumseh?
My youngest needs a tiller for her new place, so I drug this outta the woodshed.
No spark, and I don't see a kill switch, ground,
etc. I'm assuming a kill switch would wire into this spade?
So cut the fuel to kill it? I'm figuring it needs this coil? assembly and carb cleaned.
It has compression, but I don't ever remember seeing this run.
Anybody know if US made parts are available?

So I stopped and looked at this gem today needs a clutch and a tune up. My bride immediately blamed a friend of mine…..So in true pursuit of the little tractor I got a hold of the best tractor salesman I know and between us we got her leaning our way. @OLDSKOOLERnWV

Looks like a horse model, have one in the shop with a B&S. Nice tillers.
As already mentioned clean the coil and magnets in the flywheel. Clean the points gently and clean in dust / lint out with a folded $1 or any paper $$, it works the best. I have a smaller Tecumseh on a jr model Troy-Bilt.
Sometimes just a good cleaning on the coil and magnets makes a world of difference. And yes on the ground wire to the spade, my Tecumseh is that way as well…. -
I’m telling ya, I see a homeowners best friend right there, from normal yard work to flowerbeds and additional landscaping work on future projects. Not owning that tractor is like a man wearing a shirt without a pocket, or a woman owning only 1 pair of shoes. Tell her she will thank me later on…. -
I received a hood from lkq for a 9400 IH. Head light bucket were 2" deeper than oem, and wheel wells must have been shaped with a hatchet. Took forever ever to get it to look decent.Last edited: May 3, 2025 at 4:41 PM
