Screwed around with the new arrival at my place today as well! upload_2025-5-23_19-5-11.jpeg
We gave it a good greasing and decided to re-spool the drum. Oh how I have missed the sound of a 2 stroke rapid fire engine!

Will do. I gather from the tag that it's either the 305 or the 351 like you suggested before. He fired it up while I was there and it purred lke a kitten.

Those are good engines. The 305 was found in the pick ups too.

It have vacuum rear 2 speed?

Tell him not to worry about lugging it, it’ll be ok unlike a Cummins lol. I’m excited to hear about his experience of using it….

I'm not sure on the two speed. It has a cable to the control knob on the stick - 4 speed trans. Didn't the vacuum ones usually have the knob on the dash? The 49 Ford I drove did. The newer ones were electric as I recall.

One of our neighbors is having another neighbor, who is a metal fabricator, build a walking bridge to set across a channel behind his house. We were going to set it with an excavator, but not now!!!!!!

Drove a truck identical to the one you have there, it was vacuum 2 spd and the control knob was on the gear shift.

The 1974 GMC 6000 that uncle Lester bought from Refrigerated Express in Huntington had a vacuum 2 spd as well. It had a 366 / 4 / 2. Uncle Herman bought that truck after uncle Lester died in 1983. I ended up driving it couple years later, no power steering and steering wheel looked like it was 28” in diameter.

But on the same token, I’ve seen electric 2 spd as well in early 70’s up trucks.

Some of the GM medium duty trucks with a 5 spd / 2 spd have an unusual shift pattern. Normal up to 4Th gear, but then it’s 4 Lo to 5 Lo, then shift 5 Lo to 4 Hi, then 4 Hi to 5 Hi. Some of the guys in worked with couldn’t get the hang of it.

There’s the shift pattern from my gray truck for example…..
