4.63 with the old single over 13(rto12513)ran you 68 mph at 2100 rpm.
The Cummins 855 could be tuned and set to run up to 2300 safely and I have seen some at 2550 but I would not run one there.
The Detroit 318 was safe to run to 2350 and I have seen some at 2800 but again not under my foot.
The Cummins seemed to always out run the Detroits because the torque range stayed higher at higher rpm, a shiny 290 would out pull a 318 unless the 318 had very "hot" injectors.cke, sawmill, DeereRunner97 and 14 others Thank this. -
Anybody ever run the 6 71 ? Just curious.
cke, DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker and 8 others Thank this. -
I pulled mobile homes in the early 80's with a 6-71. I also spent 4 months 12 hours a day on a Terex 72-51 loader sitting on top of one
My hearing is still a bit impacted and tinnitus is a constant companion. -
I've not, but I did help dad overhaul one.
Werner had a Freightliner Classic not too long back that had a 16V IIRC. Pretty neat rig. Said the hood was 18" longer than a standard classic hood to fit it. Driver claimed 1100 horse, which didn't sound too unbelievable
It pulled around their drag car.cke, DeereRunner97, singlescrewshaker and 8 others Thank this. -
I was with a bunch that had 6-71 and 4-71 in Link Belt cranes. One was a 50 ton motor crane. Half friction half hydraulic. Hated that rotten s o b. Drove 50 miles one time to confirm it was cooked and had 0 compression. ( by the sound) I make that dreaded phone call boss says hell boy I thought you was a mechanic look over there on the blower and pull that lever up. Tell that new operator keep his hand off the emergency kill switch. At that time in my life if I couldn’t fix it it wasn’t broke. Not being ####y just facts. However I had never been around a 2 stroke. The owner helped me over haul the first one, taught me how to work on them winch drives, un house one and build the swing gear etc. He had come up the hard way. One of the better jobs I’ve had.cke, sawmill, DeereRunner97 and 12 others Thank this.

A 16v71stock naturally aspirated would be rated about 650hp so add 4 turbos and injectors like firehouse nozzles and maybe1000hp. Drivers swelled head and mechanics story telling could bump that to 1100hp.
A16v92t is 960hp stock so 1100 is entirely possible with hot injectors.cke, sawmill, DeereRunner97 and 12 others Thank this. -
safety first
or whatever -
Wish I had a pic of it. This was 2000 or 01. I might try google later and see if I can find anything.
It might be shocking to see it again, versus what my brain remembers.
Edit: I should work harder some days. Took 2 seconds
