I've always had the idea , if I won the lottery or something I would build a truckstop that had a full grocery store, and full shop and full truck wash as well, with a old school sit down restaurant run by some old lady that was 80 years old with recipes that go back multiple generationsthink it would be a hit with the otr guys , no idea if it would make any money or not. Guess loves or someone woulda done it already if it was a good business model

It was right next to the Petro, east side of i75. The other was right across the street from the Peelot in ByronGA. On the way down, we would stop in Sheffields (there’s a Peelot there now) sit down and eat and play a game or two of billiards, hit Miami, run and get a load of oranges at Indian River, grab a burger and Coke at the titty bar and be in Detroit the next morning.
There was a place in Kentucky, near Corbin, where they would advertise the daily specials on the radio, always ending with “bananabananabanana pudding.” I never did figure out the banana pudding thing, I wanted apple or peach cobbler. Food was good, prices were cheap, I had money in my pocket and actually enjoyed the lifestyle.DeereRunner97, cke, sawmill and 10 others Thank this. -

Id bring ya my wore out pos, in a hurry. You could probably make a go of it and do really good at it, but you would more than likely be so busy there would be no getting back in the truckDeereRunner97, The_vett, cke and 10 others Thank this.

Actually Texas still had that when I started OTR flatbed in 2008, and for a while after that, too.

You might be talking about the Brown Derby. They had two locations near there, and I remember hearing them call out the menu.

Edit: Although, @OLDSKOOLERnWV might have a point, too.Last edited: Jun 4, 2025
