I can’t cook in my cast iron frying pans anymore. The misses has some condition with excessive iron in her blood and that aggravates it.

I normally don’t ask these things, but, if any of you believe in the power of prayer I’d like to ask you to keep my brothers granddaughter in your prayers. She’s having a rough time and her parents and grandparents along with other family members are worried and praying hard.

I’m adding some text messages to give a better idea of what is going on. I know it’s a lot of reading sorry. I appreciate it….

    Prayer request for my Granddaughter:

Wanting to catch you up on what’s been happening this evening/morning…

We are hoping yall will join us in praying for our sweet Payton. She woke up from nap unable to fully open her eyes, not able to stand or put any weight on her legs, & barely able to keep herself up when sitting. Shes very disoriented.

We brought her to the ER at AAMC around 7pm & they have ran several labs, urine, & a head CT & they were not getting any clear answers, so they talked to the neurologist at Children's Hospital in DC who was just as perplexed & wanted to see her there, so Children’s sent an ambulance to transport Payton & Aaron here.

Neurology has since come in & done an evaluation on her here at Children’s & they have two different things they are thinking could be wrong but said they have several diagnostic tests that they need to do, as well as a MRI of her head & spine in the morning.

They are moving us from the ER to the ICU & said we will likely be here for several days while they figure out exactly what’s going on.

    Pray for our girl

Personality wise it’s like everything about her is in slow motion. She’s not as quick to respond or do normal things (high fives, etc).

As far as her moving her trunk & legs, They are not able to get any reflexes in her legs at all still. She hasn’t moved her legs on her own since almost 12 hrs ago.

But she is able to wiggle her toes

The docs have said they don’t allow minors in the ICU, but are hoping to talk to them to get an exception for Ryder since he’s so little & im nursing

They just came in & put an additional monitor on her nose to measure CO2 output & she is nooooot happy about it

They just took her up. They won’t let Ryder up there

So Aaron is staying with her for now

Please pray they somehow decide to allow D and Ryder to stay with Payton.

They just put her 2nd IV in to draw another set of labs and have it ready for contrast for the MRI,

They determined that they would sedate and intubate to make sure the MRI would be of the best quality and to make sure she tolerates being put under in her weakened state.

So it’ll be a fairly long MRI and then a lumbar poke,

We just talked to the PICU attending & had honestly the best convo yet. MRI results are pointing towards the GBS that they were thinking when we got up here & all the infections they test with the spinal tap have come back negative, which also points to GBS.

They started the first round of the IVIG (immunoglobulins) right around midnight, so she won’t be able to get the second dose until 24 hrs after that.

Extubation will be based on her breathing strength so hopefully tomorrow morning but no guarantee.

I asked how long we should expect to be here whether in the PICU or on the floor if all goes perfectly according to plan & she said she would definitely estimate at least 5-7 days.

A few hours old, but same information.

I’m traveling to Athens now to fly home in the morning

Please, please please pray they had to re-intubate the baby!

    Darienne just sent me this-

My oh my how quickly things change here.

Payton was having some desats & was holding more CO2 in than they like, so they switched her to a bipap (literally looks like a snorkeling mask that covers her whole face)

Even with the adjustment, she was still having some issues & there was concern of a collapsed lung, so they decided they needed to intubate her again & turn the sedation back on.

As they were making the decision, things started declining pretty quick, so our room was swarmed with nurses & all the people.

They successfully intubated her on the first try which was really good & she eventually came back up. They confirmed via xray that both lungs had partially collapsed but thankfully when they were bagging her they re-inflated.

She is doing better now thankfully. The doctor said unfortunately the GBS had moved to her lungs causing weakening, which we could only find out by trialing her off the ventilator.

Please keep praying for our girl.

I just got to FaceTime with my baby Payton… and pray with her.

They have diagnosed her with a severe case of Guillain Barré Syndrome.

They are going to begin the PLEX tomorrow, where they hook her up to a machine and remove all of the plasma, which is the liquid portion of the blood from her body and filter it in an effort to get those anti antibodies out of her system.

    Please keep praying!!!

Hurricane? I was married before. Hurricane don't scare me much. And I imagine a Hurricane is good for a boat repair shop.
