Do what you are gonna do. Leaves my place; and not too big a bite, send it right. In our forklift shop; recurring work say every 90 days, not too hard to recover $20 or $30 thrown in. And cheaper in the long run than newspaper ads.

I hate that. A guy will spend $7k on repairs and then skimp over the last $200.

And if it comes back later because that was a problem you'd be a rotten MF for not doing it right.

There's doing exactly what they asked and then there's doing it right and those two don't always match up.

2 piece snake, best way to handle.

That philosophy stood me in good stead over the 14 years in forklifts. Do the right thing, even if it hurts and not appreciated then...
Sort of an example. A local building supply went BK on us to the tune of about $260.00. Was a steady good paying account. From legal exp in loan business, I know to let the customer alone, you do not want him telling the judge on you. So it went.
We had a PM agreement with them on a 8K yard truck and a 5K inside one.
Time past. Service deal was do every 45 days. At about 60 days, I got a phone call from the yard foreman. In a hesitant voice, he says.. "Roger, how much did we owe you when they took BK? I told him the balance. He says; well, we still have to have service and they told me to call around and find someone. I said Troy, we will be glad to continue to do your PM and work. He was relieved and went on to say how much he hated to have to make such a call. Then he volunteered. What is your labor rate on repair, I know the PM is set. I told him the rate.
He then offered. "If you will; on all future repair bills, just add some on to the labor until you get your money. Y'all have been too nice to me to be treated this way." So a little here and some there we recovered in full.

On the theme of doing the right thing, I was able to adapt to knowing when to say NO, I/We can't do that work. don't have time to spend on it or ?
Example. Friend in Memphis calls me. Ask if I have heard of XYZ company, just coming into Tupelo. Told him no, what and why. It is a fiber processing furniture op, but they are stingy and complain about the bill every time. So if you do anything for them, make your time a little heavy, so when he calls, you can agree to adjust. OK, heard that, forewarned.
In a few days, had a call from them needing an 8K cushion tired truck to set some machinery. Hmn.. Rental contract is so much a day, week, or month, plus overtime past 8 hrs time days used. At that time we had the only 8K truck he needed, others have to truck from Memphis.
So I told him .Yes, kicked the rate up to Clark/Memphis rate and asked where he wanted it. He says that is a high rate. I replied; it is a big truck, and it is here. He agrees. Time passes quietly.
Get a call, truck is running hot. Tony (partner) went down. They handling fiber, radiator complete coated. Tony counseled them that an air hose applied each shift expected. two days later, another call from the labor cutting prince. "This truck is running hot and leaking water, we cant use it this way (veiled threat)". Tony goes down again and we had discussed them after the first call. All set... The radiator was fiber coated again and leaking up around the filler neck. Tony calls; in their princes hearing, and carefully and in a clear voice explains that the truck has a leak at the radiator neck, radiator will have to come out to rad shop to fix. Nothing there to handle the counter wgt removal, so we will pick it up, get it in and fixed asap. "Well, I need a replacement..." Umh.. And I do not have one.." Well, I will just get one from Memphis." Hate that for you but glad you have that option. We picked it up, he got him one from Memphis and all done. Would later get calls but never was able to have a man to go "right now" or what size he needed in the house. The leak was up around the neck The overflow tube was loose. Unbolt a cover panel, wire brush briskly, and solder it back on. We saved them ruining us an engine, They had not used it continuous enough setting machines to hurt.
    Run hurt, don't get killed...

A bare SBC followed me home today. So I guess I gotta decide if it gets a 350 or 400 crank.

    I believe the 350 crank has a 3.48" stroke and the 400 has 3.75"

Punch out the bores 0.030" and machine some room for the 400 rotating assembly and you get yourself a 383 stroker.
