@Big Road Skateboard — just over the top of those Juniper bushes there was a sizable herd with a couple nice bulls— forgot to ask what kind of optics you’re packing

Well, now I ain’t pointing fingers at anyone especially not my pards, but cow truck drivers have kinda done this to themselves. Long as I can remember they have always bragged about being outlaw and fast trucks and faster women. Those impressionable young fellers fall for the BS. And they want to be a “bull hauler”. Meanwhile the real outlaws is just out here keeping a low profile. Not putting #### on the internet, not bragging at the truckstop, not saying #### to nobody and in the right lane looking like Dudley do-right.
So yeah, all the young bucks with something to prove think being an outlaw means running over hours(but with all the Ag exemptions is it?). Running fast(they think 75-80 is a fast trucks). Running heavy( like 85-90k is really doing something). They got a lot to learn about truck drivin’singlescrewshaker, Sons Hero, 1951 ford and 16 others Thank this. -
I've got 8x, 15x, and a big spotter. I'm just planning on bringing one bino, but I haven't decided which yet. Leaning towards the 8's.singlescrewshaker, Sons Hero, 1951 ford and 8 others Thank this.

Probably shouldn’t mention it, but glassing is probably the most effective way to save boot leather in this country— pretty important to have a set that reaches out over a mile before you decide to hump multiple drainages and ridge topssinglescrewshaker, 1951 ford, cke and 10 others Thank this.

Good point. That made me remember a month or two back I was glassing up a hillside in CO. A cow had come out nearing dark, and I ranged her at a little over 1700 yards.
Using the 8x I could tell for sure it wasn't a big bull, but I couldn't tell for sure it was a cow, and not a spike.
My tag is for a brow tine bull, so I'd definitely want to verify points before bailing off across a basin on a bull that may not be legal.
I'll take the 15's.
Would you suggest the spotter? It's a heavy bass turd with an 85mm objective. I can pack it, but it takes up a lot of space in the pack, and it's over 5lbs.singlescrewshaker, Sons Hero, 1951 ford and 10 others Thank this. -
@Big Road Skateboard ranch elk were all over last night here hootin' keeping me awake. Colt .44 and iron sights would work. I think they smell all the big bales of foo-foo alfalfa horse hay in my neighbors barn.

Probably so. Bastads love alfalfa.
I unloaded alfalfa at a ranch in NM last month. They had broke into the barn there, and were grazing when I pulled in. Tarps were covered in elk pellets by the time I rolled em up.singlescrewshaker, 1951 ford, cke and 11 others Thank this. -
Spotter would be to big for mobile hunting— if you’re gonna have your rig you could find a high spot and set up to locate— I try and find them in the evening and put them to bed and then be after it before daylight— roughly a 30% success rate— the @RGN way with a haystack and loader bucket increases the success rate exponentiallysinglescrewshaker, Sons Hero, 1951 ford and 9 others Thank this.

For sure it's a more productive method.
