They made good sawmill engines, had a good governor to keep the blade rpm’s up so it didn’t dish in when it was in the log. I have a Case DE & LAE here both power units with pto’s. The LAE goes to my Frick mill. Only turns 1100 rpm, had to do the pulley and rpm calculation to get the proper pulley for the engine. 1948 model if my memory is correct. Guy in Kentucky bought it brand new and only used it to start a big Cat engine he had on his mill, so not much wear on it. The DE came out of Maryland from a grain mill, guy had the mag rebuilt and never put it back on. Guys delivered it to the shop and picked it up there and brought it home, got my shop manual out and installed the mag, put some gas in it and it didn’t take much it was running. Made a video of it and sent to my buddy (RIP Caseman) in Kentucky and he put it on his YouTube channel lol. Narrowed it down to #1 having a possible valve leaking or maybe sticking but otherwise it runs great…..

This was on the farm when we bought it..run it for about 10 years then just used it for a backup pump if one went down. Blew a hole in the block after. Yeah I do recall it did run low rpms...it was geared up for the pump. An antique guy was lookin at it but he waited too long...I guess it figured enough is enough n blew a hole in the side. It run on natural gas.
