At that point my eyes snapped shut. My mind reeled and it took at least 6 adult beverages to dim the visual effect of that on my brain. I am sure the recovery will take quite some time.

 

Several of my friends are regulars at cruising , they have tried to talk me into it. Not gonna happen. They make it sound good but I think I'd feel like being trapped in a big tin can. Welcome to the grumpy old man club. Now get off my lawn.

The bigger ships are like cities. At least 14-15 stories tall. Crew members will usually be European. I like black tie events and I like my tuxedos. Back when I used to go, a 7 day cruise would cost 4 people $700. Not bad, right? So, I would go into a fine dining restaurant, 3 waiters and a wine steward, look at the menu and they would have something like roast duck, rack of lamb, and lobster tail. If I had never tried duck or lamb, I would order both and the lobster. You’re talking $300-400 in a fine dining restaurant stateside. The food was outstanding!

The thing that I really dislike is the whole TOURIST thing. Both sides of the equation. I understand the people on those islands are poor. I grew up poor…I know all about it. But that doesn’t excuse trying to rob and intimidate people. On the other side of the coin, you have the typical Fanny pack wearing stereotypical “Fat Stupid American.” Was on a Carnival ship in the photo gallery. The ship will have photographers take pictures of you meeting the captain, and doing various activities. This wide backed heifer gathered all 6 of her pictures, where the sign clearly states $5 each, goes to the register. The cashier, European, says the total is $30. Wide back exclaimed loudly, “$30???? I CAN GO TO WALMART AND GET THIS FOR $10!” No land in sight and she’s talking about Walmart. Embarrassing. The cashier responded, “Float your fat arse to Walmart then!”

I couldn’t do retail. I couldn’t work in a restaurant unless I owned it.

 

My speedo has belt loops. A big buckle helps focus peoples attention when they're unsure where to look.

You'll never hear me argue with ya there.

Anybody else? Hoping it's not the freezing rain event they've mentioned in the more southern areas.

Rural folks would be without power for weeks, maybe longer.

I've drug out the tire chains and got the chainsaws ready.
