Turns out they put in a 2018 or older engine in this 2020 truck.

What makes that a bad deal is 2019 is the year that Cummins completely redesigned that 6.7 engine. Even though I should have, I didn't catch it right away that the crankshaft has eight bolts for the flex plate and the OEM flex plate that I got for it needs to go into a 10 bolt crank.

So I keep going down the rabbit hole and find out that the crank protrudes further into the bell housing on this engine which forces the torque converter further back into the pump on the transmission which explains why it shifted really hard for the less than 100 mi we were able to drive it. Naturally that puts pressure back forward on the crankshaft, so we're pretty sure it has eaten up the thrust bearings on the crank

 

Somewhat similar...
Chrysler slant six has a fitted plate; sorta cup shaped, encapsulates the end of crank . If not known, not discernable to your pull and strip to pallet for rebuilder. But his vat knows, and off it comes. Engine is returned with it on right, or not with at all, or tied with anything else they removed to vat.
Only ran into it in use on older Yale forklifts, never on any other application we took down.
First call to the rebuilder is "You shortened/or swapped my c/shaft. He says no, put the spacer plate on, and describes. Sure enough, wired to the engine shipping cradle is this marvel of machine work.
Checking for one of them on a slant six and remembering that "Diesel idling knock" are two outstanding memories from forklift days...
