Another thing to consider but maybe not in this application.....

I've reached the age that I have to ask myself do I really need a 30 year shingle or is a twenty enough....

Dad turned 80 today.....my sister is over there so I told him I'd come see him tomorrow. I don't feel like having my teeth itch tonight. It's just easier on everyone if she doesn't have contact with anyone.

The house my brother is fixing up was our great grandparents and was built back in 1905 or 06. The area where we are working had a 1500 gal or so cistern tank below it. We had to fill it in with sand and rock then capped it off with cement.

I would screw it down every foot or so. I built my kitchen up with 1 x 4's on top of new 2 x 6 joists and then put the 3/4 T & G sheeting down.
If he's putting tile down, I would use the 1/4" hardi board instead of another layer of sheeting. Between that and the tile (ceramic, I'm assuming?), it should bring the floor back to level with the existing floor.

I went back and looked at your first picture. Is the floor behind the pipe the one you're trying to level to?

This is my kitchen floor as I redid it. Behind the studs (where the step ladder is) is the laundry room. It is 3/4" lower (no 1 x 4's under the T & G) than the kitchen to accommodate the the tile and hardi backer. The bathroom is to the left out of the picture. That floor is the same height as the laundry room.

He is not sure on which tile yet.

Yes that is the level. It will be a 1/4 " lower than the old floor. New floor with 2-3/4 boards. The old flooring was 2- 7/8 boards.

4mer trucker, Oxbow and 1951 ford Thank this.

@1951 ford would you glue the two 3/4" boards together or just screw if down every foot or so?
