So, I still have 4 - 20' wide loads to move in Savannah this week, 3 of them on public roads which also require state trooper escorts. The governor declares a state of emergency for most of the state including this area which means that state troopers are legally not allowed to do "private" escorts so all my permits were denied.
In steps our permit girl, makes some phone calls directly to some troopers that live in the area to which they respond, screw that, it's just wind and rain, we've driven in worse and agree to escort me for at least 2 of them tomorrow. Thursday is a maybe depending on the storm. So I have permits, pilots and troopers for tomorrow's moves anyway. Oh and a coupon from the permit girls for a free truck wash lol -
I’m hanging out down here in Florida...
Driven in Hurricanes before but considering they don’t have anything for me tomorrow morning anyway... waiting till Friday won’t hurt
-
Abita Brewing Andygator is the drink of choice tonight...
Smooth and refreshing so far. Waiting on girl to get the steaks going.
“I thought you were cooking tonight!!”
“I told you I’d buy beer and supervise..”
“I make better steak anyway.”
“I’m not arguing?”

That's from my air compressor going out a week ago. Hopefully things hold together.

Way to work it.

I have a legal load sitting on a conestoga to take me back to Kansas but I have 1 wing to load on a ship overnight tomorrow night, 2 to move from storage to finishing, 1 to move from finishing to assembly (that one doesn't go onto a public roadway, just across the airport) and 1 to move from finishing back to storage so till all that crap is done I have to stay here.
Then at noon today when the tropical storm warning was issued we were scrambling to get all the tooling and that inside the buildings which technically isn't our problem but it was a whole hell of a lot easier for me to grab a flatbed, have the forklift set the stuff on it then drive it into the building instead of sitting there watching them try to get 50' stuff through a 18' wide door one at a time. -
I'm easily confused some, uh most... oh just about every day. Thought you had a new problem after just fixing the compressor.
I'll happily be wrong this time. -
Do you get your day rate for the onsite moves?
I can’t remember exactly how that worked but something tells me you’re not working for 0.11/mile when you’re simply doing a building to building transfer... -
Yes, we get a day rate but it's capped so we don't wind up making $1200 a day as a company driver. I think @kylefitzy was the last one to cash in before the cap was enacted lol
