Like they said. Lots of lube, I use gear oil in a squirt can. Lube them up when I’m putting them away and keep them closed. Before I had a headache cabinet I kept my ratchet binders in the between the frame belly box.
As far as padding goes we try to keep old carpet on hand at most of our yards. It will be a constant struggle and annoyance to keep moving carpet from trailer to trailer. Welcome to Spd!
I used to keep a bunch strapped to my catwalk. It looked like #### and I would Point that out to the boss every time we walked past the truck.

Here isn’t another idea for your ratchet binders. I made a rack to hold them in the side box. Has my commonly used chains next to them.![]()

Melton issues the type that has some play in the handle once it’s snapped. You essentially take off the bungee and then push the handle halfway before smacking it with your bar or an open palm and it opens. They don’t like their drivers having the binders the TA/Petro sells where there’s no play in the handle and you gotta use your bar for leverage to open the bloody thing.
... never lost a tooth or broke anything. Biggest issue was the time factor — starting out anyway. Inexperience to inexperience the ratchets are faster. You gotta screw with the snaps moving them up and down links until you can get it just right. Was a PITA. Time and experience is your friend with that... but I still think minute to minute the ratchet guy will be gone before your finished.
It’s what @johndeere4020 said though. Lowest common denominator. The bleed-blue guys will say their keeping it simple. I didn’t bleed blue after awhile.cke, Shock Therapy, BigBob410 and 14 others Thank this. -
Good deal... the ones I have are probably mid-way between open and closed. I’ll close them all when I put them back on the rack.
What do you mean in #3?[/QUOTE]
once a week I would lube the threads on any binders I used with gear oil.
use the punch to hold the top link as you tighten the binder with the other hand then take the punch to the next binder.cke, SL3406, Shock Therapy and 11 others Thank this. -

Glad to get that last load off at Monahans. I always load 18 in front and 31 in the back. Rides good and axles perfect.
Guy loaded it backwards. I caught him as soon as the gauge got heavy but apparently it ain’t as simple as closing a valve to get the sand to stop. So I got 28 in front and 21 in the back. Dragging 500 miles across Texas with my butt puckered the whole way but got er done.
Sittin at the Chisum truck stop in Lubbock, fixin to tear up some catfish.

@stwik guessing you would have to buy it but do you have enough room to fit one of those between the frame rails boxes? Used to have one and it kept stuff dry.
