Yeah I agree with the frozen slips. I've seen them too. To be honest, even that was a maintenance issue also on the ones I seen.
People dont pay attention, but the plastic slip shaft boots end up with little cracks and voids in the area where they fold like an accordion. The back and forth movement allows the plastic to develop cracks and then is starts letting moisture in or the grease dries out.
Those boots are held on with non adjustable cv-joint style clamps so most people dont think they should mess with them. Sad thing is, you can buy the spicer boot kit that comes with new clamps and 10oz of spicer synthetic grease to repack the slip for around $30. It's an hour job once every 2 or 3 years and they would most likely never fail.
Notice how these manufacturers always have to have a weak link in their products now days. The spl series driveline is great, built and designed so well that they incorporated the weak link in the disguise as maintenance. 1 single 25 cent grease zerk would solve the problem of failed slips if guys would grease them regularly.

I knew a guy that bought a Freightliner Century years ago. It had around 400,000 when he bought it. Nice clean truck though.
Anyways, he got it home and wanted to grease it and just get familiar with it from day one. He called and asked me where the grease zerks were, it doesn't have any!!! This was a 2001 year truck.
I crawled under it and started looking it over. Someone had taken ALL the grease zerks out except for the kingpins and put PLUGS in the holes. Ujoint, s cams, slacks, cross shaft bushings , tie rods and drag link all non greasable . I'd never seen that.
Turns out, it was a old PRIME truck and Prime ordered them from the factory with plugs in all of those components. What a horrible idea, dam truck was bout wore out at 400, 000 miles. Sad.Al. Roper, Slowpoke KW, 1951 ford and 19 others Thank this. -
I always had the opposite experience. Often had people parked on top of the wells, usually right in front of a no parking sign.
Sometimes they would see me coming and hurry up and park right where I needed to be. Always fun when I'd pull on up, cone off and throw a couple 12' hose and they'd have to wait till I got done. Man people can really get mad when it doesn't work out like they thought.
Now the worst ones were truck "drivers". Did some Peelots and Speedways that they would park in front of the wells, and had the most stupid, asinine responses when they were told they had to move.Al. Roper, Slowpoke KW, 1951 ford and 18 others Thank this. -
I ordered a heavy duty racing driveshaft from Driveshaft Specialists and specified the Spicer ujoint upgrade. That company has been proven 100 times over to make strong reliable parts, its a no brainer.

That lowest price is with 10% ethanol, the other is 100% gas. -
I was eating a a Flying J when they still had a restaurant, a fuel driver came in and asked a driver if it was his truck blocking the fuel wells, he said it was. That delivery driver went off the deep end, I never seen a fat guy move so fast.

Well unlike @stwik I'm not channeling my inner @ShooterK2 I'm digging deep for patience. All I want is the god#### truck greased and the oil changed in my APU. Something I could do in a dirt parking lot in 30 minutes. It's taken them an hour since I pulled in to walk over to the truck. Good news is the tech doing it remembered the arse eating I gave him last time for greasing my teflon 5th wheel plate. I think he'll remember from that day on because cleaning it off was a whole lot more work than squirting it everywhere.
