Hijack incoming! (again)
Where do CAT heads normally crack? Anybody know of any products a guy can use to highlight the cracks? Heads aren't cheap and I'd like to re-use mine if possible since I might put 1,500 miles a year max on this engine.Hurricane69, wore out, 1951 ford and 12 others Thank this. -
Don't see any visible cracks. All 6 pistons are cracked bad around the heat plugs. No crosshatch left on the pistons (assuming it had a few too many visits from the ether bunny). Looking at some of the patterns on the liners I'd wager its got a broken ring or 2. I'll find out later today. Hoping to get the piston assemblies out and front cover off by tonight.OLDSKOOLERnWV, Hurricane69, 1951 ford and 16 others Thank this.

Pretty cool. Brought my father along.
Oldest family business in the town it’s in. Learned a bit- they have a kiln that is self sustaining. It uses the heat from the fan motors to warm the air and dry the wood. Takes 30 days for softwood, up to 80 for 2” thick hardwood. When 2” oak is all dried, it has to be rewetted before it can be cut, because the outside dries more than the inside of the lumber, and will kick out of the saw. I never knew or would have thought of that.
The kiln is in a 40’ refrigerated container. They have a big rack on train axles to move the rack in n out to load or unload it, with removeable pieces of track where the doors open n close.
The sawmill saw has a 5’ blade, with removable teeth that need sharpening every 15,000 board feet, and tooth replacement every 200/250,000 board feet.
They specialize in flooring.
From booking them for the project you want done and dropping off raw logs to the time your flooring is ready to pickup is generally 6-8 months.
I dropped off rough sawn red oak that has been air dried for about a year under tarps.Al. Roper, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Feedman and 20 others Thank this. -

So I have hauled grain for some time, But never DDG. I have a customer that has asked me to haul, only about 100 miles. They pay by the ton. However I dont know what its average weight or volume of ddg. In other words I am trying to calculate tonnage that will fit in trailer. I only have a 41 foot 66 inch side hopper. I know most haul in a high side hopper. Trying to figure out if it will even be worth hauling it. Any of you folks have any thoughts on this. I can get 1250ish bushel of corn on the wagon. Thanks

Reliable seems to be a good company. I have a friend that is an O/O over there and have chatted with a few others that do very well. I was thinking of going over there but was a little more road time then I wanted.
My wife and I may still go when the time is right. That sort of car hauling is a pretty big stretch from what I do. They handle some pretty high end units from auctions.Al. Roper, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Hurricane69 and 18 others Thank this.
