The kind of outfit who has some idiot cubicle monkeys who fell into the backwards mindset that a CB is a distraction to the driver, because you know, all they're used for is jack jawing and telling lies. (Not as a tool with which to glean information from other drivers about what might be going on ahead, or as a tool to get weather reports via the weatherband).

I absolutely agree. But, at least there aren't any cameras in my truck. Just a stupid GPS tracker that my bossman can use to track my every move. The last time he called me and said "where are you?" I just replied "You know #### well where I'm at".

The downside to driving for a private carrier that has almost as many trucks as UPS.....

Probably applies to those too, I’m sure...

Hell would freeze over before I’d turn a key for the likes of Saia.

Distraction geez. Back running wrecker we had company radio, Turnpike radio, Cb, company two way phones, personal phones. They have since added gps and tracking. Talk about distractions it kinda was sometimes.

I don't give advice, so don't take it as that. But, if I was to do this over again, I'd have bought a pre-99 truck and committed to a full restoration. When I was shopping, the fact that everything was pretty much either falling apart or had moss growing on it persuaded me to go newer. But, I'm a paranoid sob, so I've still had to replace just about everything to ever feel comfortable taking off across the country. Road service isn't cheap, and neither is a 2000 mile tow. One thing I'd NEVER buy is a 3-5 year old truck with 400+ on it unless the price was in the low teens.

At my company you are required to have a CB. All company trucks have one installed by the shop. If something goes wrong with it, they fix it.

Judging by the pic, that’s probably an old tanker, so half of the miles are empty, but then you have PTO time depending. With 500k on it, my concern would be Nox sensors, doser, dpf, all emissions. I don’t like super singles either. Can’t tell if it’s a manual, but I would want to know the history on it. Oil samples, dyno report with blowby, amd the maintenance schedule since it’s a fleet truck.

It’s 5k too high at least price wise.

Sittin here relaxing for the last two weeks before I start on all my little projects.....well not relaxing just getting everything lined up. Been thinking though, and after reading and hearing things I have seen trucking change a hell of alot in the last 30 yrs. Some of it I don't like ! Use to be drivers were thought of as gods. Not so much anymore. Found out today a couple of crack kissers. Are still winning bout me. Still ! First it was I was getting all the (gravy) loads. Now it's the time I'm taking off. "How can I afford it ? " Years of work and planning and saving. Also doing the job whether I like it or not. I have developed a rep of getting the job done. It is alot of work to maintain that rep. Period ! I have also gotten a rep of being a hard axx. My friends know better. I just don't waist my time holding hands with whinners.........i got to much time on my hands right now, mind is thinking to much. LOL rant over .I'm out.

Looks like @MACK E-6 cropped your avatar’s head out of the pic. To be honest, I thought you wanted the bulldozer on it’s side as your pic.

At the risk of sounding like a young rookie ( nothing wrong with being a rookie but I'd be embarrassed to be called young at this point. ) I've never seen a Truck with Twin Right Sticks on the steering column before. One is of course the Trailer Brake but what is the second one for ? I can't read it in the picture. Y'all didn't think I was paying attention did ya ? Did I win a prize ?
