I was in reference to 6 1/2, 6, or 5 1/2 foot beds, not any particular brand.

6.5 (.264 cal) are the way to go. 6.5X284 Norma can push a 142 grain pill @3100 fps with a ballistic coefficient of .640 or around their. Its a 1500yd caliber. 260 rem is a necked down 308 along with the 243 and both are capable of 1200 yards.....with less drop and less wind buck than the 308 and 30-06

The best is I used to tow a tandem enclosed trailer with 3800lbs race car plus all tools, tires, fuel behind my 05 1500 2wd long bed. No trailer brakes. Bought it new and still have it. 5.3l is way more engine than truck or brakes. Found myself in a street race with trailer and a buddy with same set up but ford 150. They still talk about the beating he got that day. To bad the engine and trans will beat the body by a long shot.

6.5 creedmoor is cheaper than most 7mm08 and 270 bullets.

So many elk have been taken with a 243 (not my 1st choice but I use it for under 200yd. 6.5X55 sweed is Europe's choice for large game. Their sectional density makes them have more penetration power than the 270 even tho it shoots a lot faster.

To be consistent at long range you need muscle memory down pat. Sit in a dark room and dry fire it until its just 2nd nature. My 308 I've fired it more than live rounds.

Ps on older guns don't dry fire em the firing pin is more prone to fail.
