@stwik When I first started hauling blades it was considered very specialized. Drivers made bank, over $100k a year. Pilot cars were professionals with the proper vehicles and gear for the job. Then the wore out junk started showing up on the jobs, wearing shorts and flip-flops along with their pilots driving whatever they could get started at the auction lot that was under $300 with flags stuck in the windows, 12v beacon lights from Loves and no clue what being a pilot requires. The rates went in the toilet both to the company and the driver. I moved on to 13 axle schnable pulling tower base sections. Made a little less than I did when I first started pulling blades but a whole lot more than what the current blade drivers were making. Guess what, same junk equipment started scabbing on old steer axles in front of their drives, picking up old schnables and bringing along their "pilots" and soon after I was making less than our legal OTR drivers.
As with "almost" all decent freight, guys are so desperate to haul anything they'll cut a "good" rate in favor of getting the freight. To them, they're making big bucks, they've cut your rate in half but doubled what they were making and they "think" they're sh#tting in tall cotton. Well right up till they get a $10,000 fine, damage a million dollar piece or break down and have to pay someone else to recover the load.
So, when did Jordan start doing blades, the same day some salesman bid it low enough they got the contract. Maybe they'll be the exception and make it in wind energy but the more likely scenario, they'll loose the contract at the next bid letting and Steven's, JB, Swift or Schneider will be in the blade business. Of course you'll never see it on their truck, they'll broker them to the flip-flop crew for $3.00 a mile all in and those guys will be bragging about how much their making.
Rant Over.
That's why I like what we do here, has absolutely nothing to do with the rates. And the hoops our customers make the company jump through to get the contracts and to keep them are so intense the flip-flop haulers back away slowly hoping nobody seen them.whoopNride, Lostkeys, cke and 24 others Thank this. -
@catalinaflyer my dad and you guys in this thread learned me well. I'm so ashamed at guys 2x my age. No more pride left, no balls and no brains. Always be talking and never shut up and just sit back a listen. Almost makes a young'n like me not want to bring kids into this world. I'd rather adopt

That's like the Check Out Kids that quickly Scan Ur stuff and ask for $22.18 and Ya hand em $25....Change due sez $2.82....but in the meantime Ya grab a Quarter outta Ur Pocket and they're totally messed up now
They can't fathom to just add 25 cents to the $2.82 and we're goodwhoopNride, cke, stwik and 20 others Thank this. -
Because that requires brain power.cke, stwik, PoleCrusher and 15 others Thank this.
