    That's why my company went with the units the driver can edit (outside of drive time of course).

    Oh, just saw it was drive time that screwed you, dam man, that sucks.

    I don't know about the story.

    Bald tires or not, hydroplaning is not quite like driving on ice. I have never lost complete control of a vehicle while hydroplaning, but have had it pull, or received the sensation that "now is not a good time to turn the wheel abruptly".

    I find it a bit hard to believe that he would spin around several times before going off in the median had he been going less than speed limit ( I guess if the speed limit was 80 it is more likely than if it was 55).

    I have always driven heavier vehicles though so maybe that is the difference.

    My guess is that the cop suspected that the driver was probably speeding.

    Of course he was speeding. Hence the Stupid Ticket. He was driving too fast for conditions. What conditions? The wet roads and crappy tires. He mentions that he was going slightly under the speed limit. What does the posted limit have to do with anything? You can read his mind:

    "Well, if I am driving slower than the speed limit, I am not speeding."

    If I slid off the road, I sure as Hell wouldn't mention ANYTHING about the posted limit. That's the part that screams stupidity. He has intel. The road conditions, the speed limit, the tires. He chooses not to use the intel. Stupid is a choice.

    @Ruthless @BigBob410

    How much dooodooo would I be in if I was caught with a 53’ trailer on the I-278?

    And Ruthless would you post bail? Or... could you create a diversion elsewhere in NYC? Maybe lead a reefer into a low bridge or something...

    I don't want to sound like the old trucking curmudgeon of how tough things used to be,but your dad is spot on. The years I spent getting my back and kidneys beat up by my 69 CO IHC,surely were not the best of my trucking memories. These were the days of zero air ride,manual spring ride seats,hard bias tires,unforging suspensions like solid Hendricksons,wheelbases of 150" or less. Truckers comfort was not at the top of the list for manufacturers. Freeze yurazz in the winter,burn up in the summer. Sit in a hard seat getting beat up all day and night sitting directly on top of the steering axle,every hole and bump in the road,going right through your spine,as your solid spring seat bottoms out. When the daily beating is over,crawl onto the doghouse,roll into a sleeper,and do everything laying on your back. PITA. Rinse and repeat.
    You drove these for one reason,overall length laws. In 1977,I decided that I was going to make this my life career,I sold my CO,and bought my first conventional,and became an overlength outlaw. If I was going to make 40+ plus years of doing this (which I did),the hell with length laws,I'm going to be comfortable,relatively speaking. Don't regret it,esp. all the dam length tickets I paid.
    I can fully understand the novelty of wanting to own a CO,that's cool,but to want to spend hundreds of thousands of miles in one,never again.(shudder) JMHO.

    1974 in my CO4070 148"wb Hendrickson RTE 380 susp. torture chamber,lol.
