Nice!! Well at least it's never dull in the city. That's one thing I miss about operating cranes. We we're in D.C. constantly and it was never boring!

I get the same thing on occasion. My trailer is a 40' tandem and I've had some interesting experiences even with that thing. I developed the habit pretty early on of asking what kind of truck access there is at some job sites/customers.
"Is there room for a truck to get in?"
"You mean a pickup and a trailer?"
"No, I mean a tractor with a 40 foot flatbed"
"Oh, no...that won't fit..." -
“There’s plenty of room: we get 60 footers in here all the time”
That’s how you know that you can’t get into a jobsite, or probably anywhere near that jobsite, with just a phone call.peterbilt_2005, cke, 7-UP and 21 others Thank this. -

I will say though I’ve seen a LOT of over the road guys swear they can’t get somewhere as I back in with a 53 footer and long non turning tractor. That equipment on that site got there somehow.

Absolutely.
I used to be in good shape. Back when I had a regular job and had time to work out and stay fit. I got really into bike riding. Always enjoyed it since I was a kid.
Anyway, I really took to long-distance riding. 100–plus-mile days. Not racing, just distance. I read about an organized ride from Texas to Kansas they do every year called Oklahoma Freewheel. 500 miles in a week. I can do this. So I signed up. This was 2009. Got all practiced up. I was ready. Gonna show these folks who the boss is.
Day 6 of the ride. I’m happy with my daily miles. You can run your own pace each day, if you run outta steam or overheat, they’ll pick ya up in the van of shame and haul you to that day’s finish destination. Try again tomorrow. It’s June, it’s hot, lots of folks taking that van the last few days. Not this guy. Almost to the Kansas line I’m on top of the world. Best shape I’ve been in in my life. Then I come to a man and woman riding side-by-side. As I go around I happen to see it.... no shoe on his right foot....
He had lost his leg years ago. This was his 24th Freewheel in a row. With ONE LEG.
Respect is an understatement.Last edited: Dec 18, 2018
