Friend of mine called me today to tell me about .26 cent a bushel beans from marked tree to Diaz. That's 55 miles, gotta be legal to leave which is fine other than they dont load on a scale. They dont time nor do they give a #### about your idea when it comes to watching your gauges. They do the 1 pile or 2 method. Anyway he leaves batesville at 5 am to get in line at windmill in jonesboro to load white rice to Crawfordville. Did I mention they want a clean trailer? So he gets that done runs by marked tree to get the beans. After dumping out twice gets the go ahead. Has getting back to marked tree on his mind to preload but knows he will miss it by time he dumps. Just as well dragging a 250 dollar preload 60 extra miles I'm not sure pays out. All in had a 450 dollar day and thinks he hit a home run. Just some real numbers and facts of my area in the grain business. Others say oh I wont move for that. Well they do no matter what they tell you. It's not really what you make but how you manage what you make.

With the grain lots of guys forced to elogs jumped local to keep from getting there ### handed to em, that said I gave up the local deal 2 years ago because of over population. Farmers buying trucks, to have trucks available when they need them is part of the problem. However giving a CDL driver a year round job is a good deal. Also the margins are thinner on farming than ever so it makes double since. Elevators and brokers make them carry the same insurance as me. The little only savings is a 2k a year plate. I really enjoyed a good corn race but I gotta eat.


The point in this extremely boring post is I have done both sides of the deal. Even had a couple good jobs that didn't involve trucking but got in the way of it. In the end truckin won. I cant say what all I have missed, even coming in on the weekend which seemed to be our compromise isn't the best. Now with the kids grown I just kinda wander around. Sometimes I wish I had sold out and took a better path, but I couldn't. The sound of them hooves goin up the ramp, a big bore CAT coming through the straights, and pure #### stupidity kept me in it. So here I am back in Wayside Wisconsin fixin to put another load in the wagon. After 3 or 4 hours sleep.

Happy Anniversary Sawmill, sounds like you've got a keeper.

She sounds like my wife, not real particular and doesn't get caught up in the cards and flowers deal and works her butt off. She makes it pretty easy to be married.......most of the time, lol.

 

It’s plum amazing to me that someone could put up with you....... I mean..... that y’all have been able to put up with each other that long. Lol.

Seriously though, hats off to you two.

Great picture @truckdad ! My 2nd go around of marriage came after 15 yrs of parking my Harley in the house, to cooking for 2 when I allowed it. Only 13 yrs with this gal, but I plan on finishing the race with her. Congratulations to you both on your long marriage Sir.
